Talukder Abdul Khaleque has won the mayoral race of Khulna City Corporation (KCC). 

As per the unofficial results, the ruling party Awami League nominated candidate secured 1,54,825 votes while his nearest rival Abdul Awal of Islami Andolan Bangladesh got 60,064 votes.

The number of voters in the Khulna City Corporation is 535,529. Among them, 266,696 are female and 268,833 are male. Voting was held at 1,732 booths of 289 polling centres.

Of which, a total of 2,56,433 votes were cast in the city.

Earlier, in 2018, Talukder Abdul Khaleque was elected mayor after defeating BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Manju. Before that, he also won the mayoral race in 2008 elections.

Talukder Abdul Khaleque was born on June 1, 1952 in Mallikerber village of Bagerhat. From school life to political life, he almost spent his entire life in Khulna. He became active in politics during his student life.

In 1977, he became the General Secretary of Khulna District Chhatra League. In the same year, at the age of 21, he became the Commissioner of Mohsinabad Union of Khulna Municipality. After that he served as the general secretary of Mohsinabad Union Awami League and the president of Khulna district unit of regional Sramik League.

In 1991, 1996 and 2001, he became a member of parliament from Bagerhat-3 constituency from Awami League. His wife Habibun Nahar is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for that constituency. Talukder Abdul Khaleque also served as the State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management in 1996.
