Waterlogging causes immense trouble in Chattogram

Incessant rainfall for last two days has inundated many areas of the port city of Chattogram, resulting in severe waterlogging across the city.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall caused flooding in different thanas of the port city.
Due to nonstop rainfall since Saturday (August 5) night, many parts of the port city went under knee- to waist-deep water, leaving hundreds of thousands of people in immense trouble.
The flooding caused severe transportation disruptions and traffic congestion across the city. In fact, there has been intermittent rainfall there since August 1, which intensified on August 3.
Low-lying areas of the city generally get submerged even after a mild downpour and the flooding of the areas is a commonplace during monsoon.
Due to continued rainfall, flooding has been triggered in Raozan, Rangunia, Hathazari, Fatikchari, Boalkhali and Patiya upazilas of the district.
Countless houses and businesses in various parts of the city were inundated, causing significant distress to the residents.
The worst affected locations are Halishahar, Kapasgola, Badurtola, Bahaddarhat, Bakalia Mia Khan Nagar, Chawk Bazar, Muradpur, GEC intersection and Agrabad.
Biswajit Chowdhury, a forecast official at the Patenga Meteorological Office, said that about 300 mm of rain was recorded in the past 24 hours in Chattogram division.
“Such rainfall occurs because the monsoon winds are active. It may rain like this for the next two days as well,” he said.
