Woman dies of dengue leaving behind 7-day-old baby

A woman from Sreepur in Gazipur, who had given birth seven days ago, succumbed to dengue at a local hospital on Wednesday afternoon (October 4).

Suma Akter was taken to New Lab Aid Hospital and diagnostic center on Wednesday where she gave birth to a baby girl. Later, she was released from the hospital but fell sick at home. Later, she was taken to hospital again and diagnosed with dengue.

After her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Mymensingh community-based medical college hospital where she passed away.

Amzad Hossain, a dweller of the area said that most of the private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers located in Mawna Chowrasta of the municipal area are unhygienic. That’s why the areas are mostly affected by dengue. Today the 7-day-old child lost his mother. We are shocked in this incident.
