Disobeying signal by container train caused Bhairab accident: Railway

The Bangladesh Railway has said that the deadly train accident which took place in Bhairab of Kishoreganj on Monday (October 23) afternoon occurred as the container train had disobeyed the rail signal.

Additional General Manager of Bangladesh Railway’s East Zone Mohammad Nazmul Islam (additional charge) said in primary investigation they found that the collision in Bhairab happened as the container train did not obey the rail signal.

At least 24 people have been killed and several others injured after the container train hit the passenger train ‘Egarosindur Express’ from behind around 3:45pm. Besides, many passengers got trapped under the wheels of the trains.

Seven units of fire fighters, and RAB and police members rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched a rescue operation.
