Dinajpur municipality mayor Jahangir Alam suspended

Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam has been suspended following a contempt of court petition.

Abdur Rahman, a deputy secretary of the Local Government Division, issued the suspension order on October 31.

According to the notification, Syed Jahangir Alam was suspended from the post of mayor after the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court sent him to jail for contempt of court.

Earlier on October 12, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) sentenced Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam to one-month jail for committing contempt of court through derogatory remarks about an apex court judge.
