Bangladesh now has 226 ‘green’ factories

Two more garment factories in Bangladesh have received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) awards from the US Green Building Council for their green initiatives.

With the new two factories, Bangladesh has made remarkable strides in sustainable fashion with 226 LEED green factories, including 89 Platinum-rated and 123 Gold-rated, solidifying its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The two newly recognized companies are Saadatia Sweaters Limited of Diakhali area of Ashulia and Executive Greentex Limited of Mulaid area under Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) provided the information.

There are 60 Bangladeshi factories on the list of the world’s top 100 LEED green factories, the BGMEA said.

USGBC honours factories based on several criteria -- transformation performance, energy, water, and waste management. The best performers are rated with platinum, followed by gold and silver.
