In the face of protests by students, the Rajshahi University (RU) administration has canceled ward quota.
The administration came to this decision in a meeting with student representatives that lasted about half an hour on Thursday (January 2) night. Students locked up 200 members of the Rajshahi University staff inside a building for 11 hours.
Regarding this, Vice Chancellor Saleh Hassan Naqib said, “As long as I am in charge of the Vice Chancellor, there will be no ward quota."
Following the announcement, the protesters opened up the locked gate ending their protest and letting out staff, some of whom have fallen sick.
In the face of continuous protests, the RU administration yesterday reduced the ward quota to 1% from the previous 4%.
