Students of Government Titumir College staged a road blockade in front of their Mohakhali campus Thursday (30 January), demanding university status.
As part of their demonstration, the students had been observing the hunger strike since last 20 hours.
Earlier, from 5pm the previous day, they began an indefinite hunger strike and put forward the seven demands.
Aminul Islam, a third-year student of the mathematics department, who is on hunger strike, said, "We have been on hunger strike since Wednesday afternoon. However, no government representative has contacted us yet. We will continue the hunger strike until our demands are met. There can be no bigger program than a hunger strike."
Another student said, "We condemn the hypocrisy of the state. We will not go into any kind of structure including seven colleges. Our demand is an independent university."
