JU Correspondent: Students started coming one by one to the roof of the Teachers-Student Center (TSC) at least two hours before evening. Some of them were seen to wear new dresses. They started exchanging greetings with each other and holding discussion on religious issues at the corners of the roof. Many newcomers were seen to join them.
After sometime, the organisers left for buying iftar items. They came back half an hour before the evening and started preparing iftar dishes. They looked very joyful. At last, the time for which they got together approached and everyone broke their fast on time with the iftar items they bought. The smell of piyaju, beguni, mouth-watering jilapi and other delicacies also amplify their enjoyment. This is a view of the iftar mahfil organised by Jessore District Student Welfare Association at Jahangirnagar University (JU). Students from different institutions also gather there to have Iftar.
The organisation recently arranged the iftar mahfil at the university's Teachers-Student Center where former and running members participated. This is a very regular scene for the students of Jahangirnagar University. Different faculties of the university arrange Iftar mahfil almost every day. Besides, various cultural, social and political organisations are also seen to arrange Iftar mahfil amid festivity.
Jahangirnagar University goes into 40-day vacation from May 20 on the occasions of summer, Ramadan and Eid-ul-fitr. After passing a long time together, the students started leaving the campus.
Matiur Rahman Munna, deputy publication secretary of Jessore district student welfare association, said, "If I had been in my home, I would have iftar with my family. But now I am at my campus for educational purpose. I get opportunity to participate at the iftar mahfil together with senior-junior-friends here. It feels good."
Iftar mahfil is organised by the students throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The students generally organize Iftar mahfil at the university's central field, residential hall, 'Tarzan' point, transport point, dining-canteen etc. Along with the regular students, many former students, even outsiders come here for Iftar. Iftar items are available at Dairy Gate, Joy Bangla Gate, Bottala of the Jahangirnagar University and the nearby markets of the campus. The sellers are also happy to be able to sell their iftar items to the students.
