Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan tied the knot on October 25, 1991 and they have three children Aryan, Suhana and Abram.
They had an inter-faith marriage, they made sure to celebrate both religions and often spoke about raising their kids in a secular way.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan faced opposition from her family.
Gauri’s family members, being ‘orthodox Hindus’ didn’t want her to marry a Muslim.
In fact, they thought that Shah Rukh was taking their ‘naive’ daughter for a ride and was not serious about their relationship. Her brother Vikrant Chibber even wanted to ‘murder’ the actor every time he saw him.
In an old 1994 interview with Filmfare, Gauri revealed that Vikrant ‘hated’ Shah Rukh and every time he saw him, he didn’t like him.
“He’s (Vikrant) a very cool, laid-back guy but whenever he saw Shah Rukh he saw red. He was very possessive about me and he had murder on his mind every time he caught Shah Rukh looking at me,” revealed Gauri.
Though only a year and a half older than Gauri, Vikrant threatened to beat SRK if seen around his sister. But Shah Rukh never reacted to the threats as he was Gauri’s brother. “He’d scream, ‘I’ll beat you to pulp, I’ll bash you up.’ The threats must have irritated Shah Rukh no end, but since he was my brother Shah Rukh would just nod and say, ‘Yeah, yeah whatever you say’,” Gauri shared during the interview.
Gauri also highlighted how it was fine for her brother to date a girl in the 12th standard, but she was barred from liking a boy when she was in the 9th standard. She said, “I met Shah Rukh when I was in the ninth standard and he was in the twelfth. Vikrant met his girlfriend the same year, the same month. It was all right for him to date a girl but I couldn’t even dare to like Shah Rukh. It took Vikrant four years to accept Shah Rukh…”
Eventually, things got better between Shah Rukh and Vikrant. He even celebrated his sister’s wedding. Gauri was only 22 years old when she married Shah Rukh, who was 26 at the time.
