Asha Bhosle concerned over rise in divorce cases

Noted singer Asha Bhosle eloped with her sister Lata Mangeshkar’s 31-year-old Ganpatrao Bhosle when she was just 16. They married against their family’s wishes and had three children.

However, the two parted ways in 1960. Asha then married music director-actor RD Burman in 1980 and they remained together until he died in 1994.

Asha Bhosle made a big comeback by singing the songs of Rangeela. At the age of 79, she made her debut as a leading lady in the film Mai in 2013. The legendary singer also loves cooking. She has turned her hobby into a career and runs restaurants in major cities across the world.

Recently, the singer has expressed concern over rising cases of divorces among young generation.

She was interacting with spiritual leader Ravi Shankar when she asked him the reason behind the same and expressed shock over love between young couples ending so soon.

Asha Bhosle admitted that even though she had issues with her husband, she never took the drastic step of ending their marriage. “But I never divorced my husband,” she said and then asked, “However, nowadays, I hear about couples sending divorce papers every month. Why is this happening, Gurudev.”

“I have spent most of my years in the film industry and seen many people but, earlier, they never used to take such drastic steps like the current generation does. I feel that the love between them ends very soon and they get bored with each other fast too. Maybe that’s one of the main reasons (for the apparent increase in divorces),” she said.

Ravi Shankar explained that nowadays, attraction often outweighs love. He also argued that young couples do not have tolerance levels due to which problems between them do not get resolved. “You kept singing and made everyone happy. You also had faith in god and also the strength to tolerate and deal with troubles,” he told Asha.
