Musician Shujeo Shyam passes away

Renowned Ekushey Padak recipient and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Shujeo Shyam has passed away.

He was 78.

He breathed his last on Thursday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Signer Asif Akbar confirmed the news.

Family sources said Shujeo Shyam was suffering from cancer. Recently a pacemaker has been implanted at his heart. He was also suffering from uncontrolled diabetes and kidney issues.

Born in Sylhet in 1946, Shujeo was honoured with Ekushey Padak in 2018. He received Shilpakala Padak, Bharat Gourav Award, and Bangladesh’s highest civilian award Swadhinata Padak or Independence Award in 2015.

He joined the then East Pakistan Radio in 1964 as a guitarist and director of children’s music. He joined Dhaka Betar in 1968.
