National Film Award-winning filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan has passed away at the age of 60.
Anjan breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India’s Bangalore at 8:30 pm on Monday (February 24), his younger brother Sazzadur Rahim confirmed.
Sazzadur Rahim said that Anjan had been suffering from liver complications for several years. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in India’s Bangalore for several months. Last week, the doctors decided to perform liver transplant on him. After the surgery, his physical condition deteriorated and he was put on life support. Later, the filmmaker died there.
The renowned film director left behind his wife, two brothers, one sister and a good number of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Anjan made his directorial debut with “Meghmallar,” a film based on the short story “Raincoat” by renowned author Akhtaruzzaman Elias. Released in December 2014, the film won him the National Film Award for Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer.
His latest film, “Chander Amaboshay”, or “dark moon” made with government funding, is awaiting release.
Anjan, a founding member of the Bangladesh Short Film Forum, was teaching film at Stamford University’s Department of Film and Media.
