Legendary actor Farooque dies

Legendary actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque has passed away at a hospital in Singapore. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun)
Farooque, also Member of Parliament for Dhaka-17 constituency, breathed his last around 8:30am at Mount Elizabeth Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for the last two years.
Farooque’s niece Asma Pathan Rumpa confirmed his death news to risingbd.
Rumpa said, “He passed away around 8:30 am. His body will be brought back home tomorrow.”
Farooque rose to fame on the big screen through “Jolchhobi”, directed by H Akbar. His acting prowess would eventually earn him the National Film Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in 1975. Later, in 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Some of Farooque’s most notable and memorable films include “Sareng Bou”, “Lathial”, “Sujon Sokhi”, “Noyonmoni”, “Golapi Ekhon Traine”, and many more.
He made his appearance in over 150 films in a career spanning more than five decades. Most of his films were commercially and critically successful -- he was known as the ‘Miya Bhai’ of Bangla cinema to the people.
Actor Farooque was born in Dhaka on August 18, 1948.
