Muizzu takes oath as new Maldivian president

Mohamed Muizzu has taken oath as the eighth President of the Maldives.
The 45-year-old Muizzu, an engineer-turned-politician, took the oath of office on Friday at a ceremony attended by a multitude of foreign dignitaries.
Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan administered the oath of office to Muizzu.
At the ceremony, Hussain Mohamed Latheef also took oath as the 10th vice president of the Maldives.
Among those from the local top leaders who attended it were former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of the outgoing administration and two other former presidents, Mohamed Nasheed and Dr Mohamed Waheed.
Senior officials from the outgoing and the new administrations and parliamentarians were also in attendance at the ceremony, alongside 1,000 members of the general public.
