WHO chief ‘appalled’ by Israeli attack on Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital

The World Health Organization (WHO) said it was “appalled” by the latest attack on a hospital in Gaza by Israeli forces after a bombardment killed at least 12 people at the Indonesian Hospital in the northern part of the war-battered Palestinian enclave, reports Al Jazeera.

The Indonesian Hospital is besieged by Israeli forces with people unable to enter or exit. People who have attempted to leave the medical facility have reportedly come under fire, the WHO said in a statement.

“There have been multiple and ongoing attacks on health facilities in the last six weeks, that have resulted in forced mass evacuations from hospitals, and multiple fatalities and casualties among patients, their companions, and those who had sought refuge in hospitals,” the WHO said.

“The Indonesian Hospital had already reportedly sustained damages due to at least five attacks since 7 October,” the UN’s health body said.

“The world cannot stand silent while these hospitals, which should be safe havens, are transformed into scenes of death, devastation, and despair.”

The WHO said it has documented 335 attacks by Israeli forces on health facilities in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since 7 October. There were also 33 attacks on health facilities in Israel during the Hamas attack on October 7._Agencies.
