The Arakan Army has taken control of Minbir, another town in Rakhine state in Myanmar.
Insurgent groups in Rakhine say they captured the headquarters of the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion 379 and Light Infantry Battalion 541 outside the city of Minbiya on Tuesday after continuing a series of attacks over the past month.
Rakhine media reported that control of the city was taken after the last two military battalion headquarters in the city were captured on Tuesday.
A number of junta soldiers and their family members surrendered to the Arakan Army during the seizure of two military bases, local media reported, citing residents of Minbia town.
Despite counter-attacks by jets and gunboats, the rebel groups captured the headquarters of Light Infantry Battalion 380 in the same area of Minbia on January 28.
