Pakistan polls: PTI-backed independents lead in final tally

According to the latest announcement by the election commission, independents have won 101 seats, 96 of them backed by Imran Khan’s PTI.
Nawaz Sharif’s PMLN has won 75 while the third position has gone to the Pakistan People’s Party with 54 seats, reports Aljazeera.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), a Karachi-based party has made a surprising return in the polls, winning 17 seats.
The vote on February 8 was held for 266 National Assembly seats, and 134 seats are required for a party or coalition to gain a simple majority.
The vote on one seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was cancelled due to the death of a candidate while results from another constituency in Punjab have been withheld._Agencies.
