Heavy snowfall in Afghanistan kills 15

15 people were killed and 30 others injured as heavy snowfall hit numerous districts of Afghanistan over the last three days.

Furthermore, reports from the Balkh and Faryab provinces show that the recent snowfalls have had a terrible impact on cattle, with roughly ten thousand animals dying.

Abdul Qadir, a resident of Sar-e-Pul, echoed the population’s general uneasiness, noting, “The snow is ongoing and very heavy, and people are anxious because their livestock has suffered losses, many roads are blocked, and there is hardly any movement”.

In response to the situation, Afghanistan has announced the formation of a committee made up of various ministries to handle the damages, notably those suffered by cattle owners.

The government has allotted fifty million Afghanis to assist livestock owners in the provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Badghis, Faryab, and Herat.

Misbahuddin Mustaeen, the Taliban’s appointed spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, emphasized the prompt response of committees constituted in every province.

These committees are actively working to clear blocked roads, deliver food and fodder to impacted villages, and rescue individuals who have become stranded in the aftermath of the heavy snowfall.
