The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), led by Heo Eun-joo, Global Director held the Peace Lecturer Training Education (PLTE) graduation ceremony on March 2 with the participation of four countries overseas (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan), according to a press release.
PLTE is a core program of women’s peace education organized by IWPG to foster women as peace lecturers, as protectors of families and members of society, to spread the message of peace worldwide, especially to families and local communities.
Comprising a total of 10 lectures, PLTE aims to assist women in growing as international peace leaders and understanding what they can do to achieve peace through quality education.
This graduation ceremony saw high participation from Afghan women, whose educational opportunities have disappeared under the Taliban regime. Despite poor internet conditions, they joined hands with IWPG, even initiating discussions on the establishment of a Peace Committee in Afghanistan.
One of the participants from Afghanistan, stated, “Through interactive discussions, participants were exposed to diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and cultural viewpoints, broadening their worldview and breaking down prejudices. Through the stories of individuals with different backgrounds and contexts, participants could develop deeper appreciation for the universality of human complexity, fears, hopes, and resilience.”
Another participant, Marilyn Dennis from India, said, “By recognizing the significant human costs, economic burdens, environmental destruction, and threats to global security associated with war, I have learned that we can find peaceful solutions. It was a time to firmly resolve to create a world free from such destructive conflicts, essential for the well-being of individuals, societies, and the planet.”
Rania Alam, Representative of Bangladesh Dhaka Peace Committee from Bangladesh expressed gratitude to IWPG officials for motivating them to be under the umbrella of peace and for inspiring them to spread peace.
Batool Kazmi, Representative of Karachi Dhaka Peace Committee from Pakistan highlighted “It was a valuable time to learn the worth of creating laws of peace and to embody the virtues of peace as we advocate for it. This is how we can achieve world peace.”
IWPG Global Region 3 have been updating the lectures regularly and conducting PLTE lectures every quarter. They are actively involved in training peace lecturers who can teach in their native languages and promote peace in their respective local communities.
Meanwhile, IWPG is an international Women’s Peace Group, an NGO registered both in UN DCG and UN ECOSOC and is working actively for various peace activities such as International Women Peace Network, Spreading Peace culture, etc and uniting with UN women organizations together for urging the legislation of DPCW.
