The crescent moon, which marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, was sighted on Sunday evening in Saudi Arabia. So, the first Ramadan will be observed there on Monday (March 11). The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed this information.
Ramadan, determined by the lunar Islamic calendar in which months span either 29 or 30 days, commences and concludes based on the sighting of the crescent moon. As the moon was sighted on Sunday evening, the previous month of the Hijri calendar ended in 29 days.
Meanwhile, the Ramadan moon was also seen in Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore on Sunday. Hence, Monday will be the first Ramadan in these countries.
