Putin wins by historic margin

Vladimir Putin has secured an absolute victory in the election to become the President of Russia again. He received a record number of votes in the 3-day presidential election.

On Sunday (March 17), preliminary results showed that he got about 88 percent of the votes.

According to Russia's Central Election Commission, early returns after the polls closed showed he is poised to extend his near 25-year rule until 2030, with some 87% of the vote after about 80% of precincts were counted.

It is a record after the post-Soviet era. With this, the 71-year-old Russian leader has been in power for another six years. He has been in power since 1999._Agencies.
