Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was appointed as the country’s deputy prime minister on Sunday (April 28).
“The Prime Minister has been pleased to designate Minister for Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar as deputy Prime Minister,” a statement from the Prime Minister Office said.
The appointment comes at a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz and Dar, along with other ministers, are in Saudi Arabia to attend the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy.
According to the statement, the appointment was made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif “with immediate effect and until further orders”.
Dar, a part of Sharif family, is currently accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Saudi Arabia to attend the World Economic Forum summit.
Dar’s son is married to a daughter of three-time Prime Minister and Shehbaz Sharif’s elder brother, Nawaz Sharif.
