Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to win a majority in parliament but well short of a landslide predicted by exit polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi already claimed victory for his alliance on Tuesday in India’s general election.
Modi told a crowd at his party’s headquarters that his National Democratic Alliance will form the government for the third consecutive time, saying Indian voters had “shown immense faith” both in his party and the coalition alliance.
But The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on Tuesday delivered better-than-expected results in the 2024 general elections.
The election commission figures showed the BJP and its allies on track to win at least 294 seats out of a total of 543, enough for a parliamentary majority.
Congress-led alliance was ahead in 232 and other 17. INDIA leaders are now trying to contact others.
“BJP's two allies have become extremely important now - Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, now that BJP might not get its own majority.”
“We'll have to see who is going to lead this government because we are now going back to the days of bargaining which we haven't seen in the last 10 years, because Modi was so dominant”.
“Now, Modi is not known as a consensual figure. So, it'll be very interesting to see how he manages the pulls and pressures of a coalition government”.
