Strong earthquake jolts South Korea

South Korea's southwestern region was shaken by a strong earthquake. The 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the country around 8:30 am local time today (June 12).

It has been identified as the strongest earthquake in South Korea this year.

However, South Korea's National Fire Agency has confirmed that no major damage or casualties have been reported in this earthquake so far.

The quake's epicenter was four kilometers south of Buan County and about 205 kilometers south of Seoul, the Associated Press reported, citing the country's meteorological office.

The National Fire Agency said it so far confirmed eight minor cases of property damage in Buan and the nearby city of Iksan, including cracked walls at homes and a warehouse, at least two broken wall tiles and at least one broken window.
