Red alert issued as heavy rain leaves 7 dead in Delhi

Heavy rain battered Delhi on Wednesday evening, as the national capital received record rain in a single day, breaking its 14-year record.
As many as seven people died as a result of rain-related incidents.
Among the deceased, two are from Delhi, two from Greater Noida and three from Gurugram.
In Delhi, a woman and her child died after falling into a waterlogged drain. In Greater Noida, a wall collapse in the Dadri area claimed two lives. Three people died of electrocution in Gurugram.
Heavy rain prompted India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for Delhi. The IMD advised residents to stay indoors, secure their homes, and avoid unnecessary travel.
The rain left most parts of the city waterlogged and severely affected traffic movement, with citizens left stranded for hours.
Delhi Education Minister Atishi Marlena on Wednesday announced all schools- government or private- will remain shut in the national capital on August 1.
At least 10 flights headed for Delhi have been diverted after the national capital witnessed heavy rains Wednesday evening.
Waterlogging was reported from several parts of the city, bringing back memories of the flooded basement at a coaching centre in Rajinder Nagar on Saturday in which three students were killed.
