219 garment factories shut in Savar

A total of 219 garment factories were declared shut in Ashulia Industrial area so far today due to the labour unrest.
Of these, 86 factories are closed following the section 13 (1) of the Labour Act.
Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, confirmed the matter to risingbd on Thursday noon (September 12).
Earlier, the workers joined the factory as usual this morning. However, as the day progressed, the authorities declared a general holiday when the workers stopped working in some factories. Later, an additional 133 factories declared a general holiday.
In the past few days, in the areas of Savar-Ashulia where labor protests are taking place. Law enforcement forces have strengthened security in those areas.
RAB-4 CPC-2 Company Commander Major Jalis Mahmud Khan said that 14 patrol team and four APC are deployed in the area. The overall situation is under control now.
