Cyclone ‘Dana’ creates panic in West Bengal

The severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts in India between Puri and Sagar Island on 24-25 October with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“The depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal moved slowly west-northwestwards with a speed of 4 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centred on Tuesday over the same region, about 700 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 750 km southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 730 km southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh), forecasted IMD.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by 23 October over the east-central Bay of Bengal. If it intensifies into a cyclone by Wednesday, it will be named “Dana.”

The BMD forecasted that the well-marked low moved west-northwestward and concentrated into a depression. It is likely to move west-northwesterly direction further and intensify into a cyclonic storm.
