Donald Trump, the newly elected President of the United States, will start performing his duties as the 47th US President on January 20. However, he has started arranging the administration even before that.
Trump has been announcing the names of key administration officials over the past few days. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has confirmed he will appoint South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security and Pete Hegseth will be the next defence secretary.
Trump may appoint Marco Rubio as his secretary of state, sources told Reuters.
Meanwhile, the BBC reported that since Trump was elected president, there have been rumours that Trump may pick Elon Musk for his new administration.
Musk donated a reported $200m (£157m) to Trump’s campaign, and was one of his top public surrogates.
Finally, Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.
Despite the name, the department will not be a government agency. Trump said in a statement that Musk and Ramaswamy will work from outside government to offer the White House “advice and guidance” and will partner with the Office of Management and Budget to “drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before.” He added that the move would shock government systems.
Trump said the duo “will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies”.
