US President-elect Donald Trump has selected his candidate for White House press secretary.

The position will be filled by someone from his previous administration, according to Axios.

Axios states that Trump named Karoline Leavitt as his choice for the role. Leavitt previously served as the national press secretary for his 2020 campaign.

Additionally, the 27-year-old Leavitt worked as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first term in the White House.

In 2022, she ran for Congress from New Hampshire but lost to the Democratic incumbent.

In announcing his decision on Friday, Trump described Leavitt as intelligent and tough, adding that she “has proven to be a highly effective communicator.”

“I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we Make America Great Again,” Trump said.

Trump’s new administration is expected to challenge traditions in the renowned James Brady Press Briefing Room. Axios notes that while the White House Correspondents’ Association controls seat distribution during daily briefings, the White House determines the press secretary’s powers.

Axios also reports that Trump made disparaging remarks about traditional media, a central theme of his campaign, frequently labeling certain outlets as fake news during rallies.

Furthermore, the reshuffling of press secretary positions reflects Trump’s inclination towards friendly podcasters, YouTube influencers, and social media personalities.
