26 Bangladesh nationals killed in Libya attack

At least 26 Bangladesh citizens were killed and 11 others injured in an attack in Mizda, about 180 kilometres from Libyan capital Tripoli, on Thursday.

‘Twenty six Bangladesh citizens were killed in an attack, according to primary information, and 11 others were injured’ according to media report.

Eleven of the injured were given primary medical treatment in Zintan and brought to Tripoli Medical Center for further treatment.

The interior ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Libya issued a statement in this regard.

The GNA statement said 26 Bangladeshi citizens and four African people were killed by the family of a slain human trafficker of Libya.

Diplomatic sources said it might have been a revenge attack in which the Bangladeshis and others were killed.

Libya has long been a destination for migrants. But it has now become a major station for migrants trying to reach Europe across the Mediterranean because of the ongoing war, poor living conditions and bad economic situations in Libya.
