The USS Dwight D Eisenhower aircraft carrier and its strike group has moved through the Strait of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean, reports Al Jazeera.
The USS Gerald R Ford Carrier Strike Group is already in the eastern Mediterranean, part of a buildup of US forces as the country supports Israel.
The Eisenhower is slated to move through the Suez Canal to the US Central Command region.
The expansion of US forces in the Middle East also comes amid a series of attacks against US personnel on bases in the region.
As we reported earlier this week, the Pentagon confirmed that the US attacked two facilities in Syria that it said were used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran-backed groups.
US President Joe Biden has said he will not hesitate to take further action should more potential attacks on US forces be carried out._Agencies.
