Govt to provide homes to 68,000 families

The government has taken a number of plans including building 68 thousand and 38 disaster-resistant homes for the poor and marginal village people in the country and 200 Mujib forts to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has taken the initiatives.

The cost to build each house will be Tk 2 lakh 99 thousand and 860. The project to construct the homes will begin from the coming month of March and will be completed within the month of March of 2021.

These houses will be constructed in the current and next fiscal years. For this, the allocation required in two years is Tk 2 thousand 40 crores 18 lakhs 74 thousand and 680. Besides, 200 Mujib forts will be inaugurated in February 2021.

According to sources in the finance ministry and cabinet department, the houses will be constructed under the supervision of union councils, Upazila administration and district councils for the victim people of the country’s coastal areas, victims of river erosion, poor, helpless, landless and marginalized.

The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has already sent a demand letter to the finance department. It said that the number of the poorest people in the country is decreasing rapidly. In the interest of improving the quality of life of the people, each homeless family in every village will get a house. It will cost Tk 2 lakh 99 thousand and 860 per house.

According to sources, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has send a proposal of transferring Tk 899 crore and 58 lakhs of the current budget to the Finance Ministry for building 30 thousand houses. This amount is taken canceling special allocations for rural infrastructure maintenance (TR) and the Kajer Binimoye Taka (Kabita) programs.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said that the ministry has decided to distribute a total of 68 thousand and 38 disaster-resistant homes in 68 thousand and 38 villages in the country on the occasion of the celebration of Mujib Year. It will cost Tk 2 lakh 99 thousand and 860 per house.

The project to construct the homes will begin from the coming month of March and will be completed within the month of March of 2021, he added.
