4 get life term for killing carpenter Abbas

A Dhaka court has sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing carpenter Sheikh Abbas in the capital’s Uttar Kalshi area in 2003.

The court also acquitted six other people of the case as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.

The convicts are—Panchananda Sarker, Abdus Sattar, Laksman and Swapan.

Dhaka Special Sessions Court-5 Judge Iqbal Hossain pronounced the judgment on Tuesday (November 14) in presence of Panchananda Sarker.

 The court also issued arrest warrant against the Sattar, Laksman and Swapan as they have been on run since the trial began in 2004.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to serve six more months in jail.

According to the case statement, the victim was stabbed to death with sharp weapons on his way home on May 11 in 2003.

Later, the victim’s brother Sheikh Akkas Ali filed the case with Pallabi Police Station in the next day.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pallabi Police Station Mirash Uddin, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against 10 persons.
