A Dhaka court today (November 22) dismissed the bail petition of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed over the attack on the residence of the chief justice during the BNP-police clash on October 28.
Acting judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judges court Faisal Atiq Bin Quader passed the order after hearing from the prosecution and the defence.
Earlier, November 20 was set for hearing Fakhrul’s bail petition. However, the state side sought time for the bail hearing informing the court that Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu was ill.
Later, the court fixed November 22 for the next bail hearing.
On November 2, lawyer Sayed Joynal Abedin Mesbah submitted a prayer to the court seeking Fakhrul’s bail in the case.
On October 29, the Detective Branch of police detained Fakhrul from his Gulshan residence.
Later, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Rashidul Alam sent him to jail, rejecting his bail prayer after he was produced before the court in the case.
Mentionable, subversive activities were carried out on the residence of Chief Justice on October 28. Following the incident, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against 59 BNP leaders and activists including Mirza Fakhrul.
