UNDP provides PPEs to 85 SCC workers

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangladesh provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to 85 environment workers of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
UNDP Bangladesh issued a press release in this regard on Sunday (November 26).
In response to the significant economic, social, and logistical hurdles on people’s lives and livelihood by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Resilience and Inclusive Growth (R&IG) Cluster of UNDP Bangladesh, is implementing the initiative "Supporting Emergency Supplies of PPEs and Transferring Technological Know-how in Response to COVID-19 in Bangladesh".
This initiative is part of the "China-UNDP Triangular and South-South Cooperation Project on Strengthening PPE-related Manufacturing Capacities in Asia and the Pacific Region" and is funded by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of the People's Republic of China.
As part of the initiative, UNDP Bangladesh is providing safety gears (personal protective equipment (PPE)) for safeguarding healthcare workers and raising awareness on safety measures to ensure safety during their essential duties. In this connection, UNDP Bangladesh organized a safety gear distribution event on 25 November 2023 at the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) to provide safety gear (personal protective equipment) to 85 environmental and cleaning staffs of SCC. The personal protective equipment included one vest, one box of mask, two pairs of gloves, one pair of rubber boots, and one leaflet on COVID-19 awareness message.
The mayor of SCC, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury presided over the program. In his address, the mayor expressed gratitude to the authorities of UNDP Bangladesh for supplying protective equipment to the environmental and cleaning workers of SCC. On behalf of UNDP, Mr. Md. Atiqul Huq, Former Director General of the Department of Disaster Management and National Consultant, UNDP, and Ms. Tahmina Tamanna, Shelter Specialist at UNDP were present among others.
