Executive magistrates set to enforce electoral code of conduct

The executive magistrates are set to discharge their duties from today, Tuesday (November 28) to enforce the electoral code of conduct in 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country and they will continue their job till January 4 next.

The Election Commission (EC) has written to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration to appoint one executive magistrate for every three unions, three for each municipality and one for every three wards under the city corporation.

According to EC sources, a decision has been taken to appoint required number of executive magistrates in each constituency to enforce the electoral code of conduct under the Mobile Court Act.

EC officials said that over 3,000 executive magistrates will be required in this election. In the first phase, executive magistrates will play their role to observe the enforcement of the code of conduct and in the second phase, more executive magistrates will be added ahead of the day of election.

According to the EC directive, about 2,700 executive magistrates will be needed to appoint in the country’s 4,571 unions, 328 municipalities and 12 city corporations.
