National Memorial prepared for Victory Day

The National Memorial at Savar is ready for the Liberation War heroes so that people from all classes and professions can pay their tributes to them by placing wreaths at the monument on the occasion of the Victory Day, to be celebrated on December 16.

Hundreds of cleaners and sweepers have worked relentlessly for two weeks to make the monument built on 108 acres of lands ready for the occasion.

Mohammad Helal Uddin, Executive Engineer at Savar Public Works Department said cleaning and decorating tasks took place in last one and half month centering the victory day celebration. We hope the victory day will be celebrated smoothly.

He said that the National Memorial complex has been cleaned and decorated. The bricks from the entrance to the main memorial ground have been coloured. Flower pots have been placed along both sides of the walkway. Trees in the memorial area have been trimmed and smartly groomed.

Following the decoration, the whole memorial compound is ready now, he added. Soon after sunrise on December 16, the National Memorial will be opened to the public after the VIPs pay their respects.

Freedom fighters, political parties, organisations and the general public will also fill the memorial with wreaths and flowers.

Several tiers of security measures have been adopted surrounding the monument area.
