President gives nod to army deployment in JS polls

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has approved the deployment of the armed forces in the upcoming 12th parliamentary election.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter after visiting Bangabhaban, along with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal, on Sunday (December 17).

After the meeting, the EC secretary said that the Head of State has agreed in principle to the deployment of troops. However, the timeline for deployment will be determined based on discussions and the prevailing circumstances.

The President will take a decision in this regard soon after a discussion with the armed forces, he added.

Earlier in the morning, the CEC went to meet the president to make a request for army deployment in the general election.
