Maldives labour market to reopen for Bangladeshis

After a hiatus of over four years, Maldives is going to reopen its labour market to Bangladeshi workers.

Maldives homeland security and technology ministry confirmed the matter on Sunday (December 17).

Following the announcement, skilled Bangladeshi workers will be able to go to the country legally. However, the arrival of unskilled workers will be suspended now.

Earlier, a ban on Bangladeshi workers was slapped in September 2019 to tackle the problem of illegal immigrants.

Later, the Maldives government gradually continued the ban every year. However, this ban is no longer being extended after the formation of the new government. As a result, the labor market of the country is going to open for Bangladesh after overcoming the ban.
