Polls campaign begins

Electoral campaign by the candidates for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election slated for 7, 2024 began across the country after getting allocated symbols by returning officers on Monday (December 18).
The campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5.
The EC announced the JS polls schedule on November 15. The last date for submission of nomination papers was November 30.
A total of 2,716 candidates submitted their nomination forms from at least 30 registered political parties and individuals.
After the primary scrutiny, the returning officers declared 1,985 candidates valid and 731 as invalid.
Later, 560 out of 731 invalid candidates appealed before the EC from December 5 to December 9. During the hearing period for six days, 286 aspirants got back their candidacies.
The last date for the withdrawal of candidacy was on Sunday (December 17).
To hold the election in free and fair manner, the EC has decided to engage a total of 7.5 lakh members from different law-enforcement and security agencies.
Besides, members from the Armed Forces Division are also being deployed across the country.
Moreover, judicial enquiry committees and mobile courts are also active in the field.
