SC stays HC order that declared Sadiq’s candidature valid

The chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed the High Court verdict that declared the candidature of independent candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah of the Barisal-5 constituency valid.

Following the court order, he will not be able to contest the election.

Appellate Division Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Tuesday (December 19).

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and Advocate Nahid Sultana moved for the petitioner while Advocate Ahsanul Karim stood for the other side.

Earlier on Monday, the High Court reinstated the candidacy of Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah ahead of the upcoming 12th national parliamentary elections.
