The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said Ikhtiar Rahman Kabir, the former vice-president of the Chhatra Dal, was the mastermind in setting fire to the Mohanganj Express train, which killed four people at Sreepur in Gazipur.
Emon Hossain, president of Ward No. 24 of Gazipur metropolitan, directly participated in cutting the railway line.
During the arrest, cutters and railway line cutting equipment were recovered from their possession.
CTTC Chief Md Asaduzzaman disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Monday (December 25) morning.
CTTC chief said that Kabir received instructions from Juba Dal leader Sultan Salahuddin Tuku to cut the railway line. As per the instruction, he contacted two Chhatra Dal leaders in Gazipur. One is the convener of Azim Uddin College Chhatra Dal while another is Masum, the organizing secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Chhatra Dal. These two are assigned to implement the plan and they met at the house of a local councillor.
