City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman dies

Fazlur Rahman, chairman and managing director of City Group, passed away at a hospital in the capital early Monday (December 25).

He was 77.

He breathed his last at the United Hospital around 4am, said Biswajit Saha, director of corporate and regulatory affairs at the City Group.

He has left behind his wife, one son and three daughters to mourn his death.

It was learnt that Fazlur Rahman worked at his office on Sunday. Suddenly in the early hours of today, he felt ill and was taken to the United Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment.

He will be laid to rest at Zurain graveyard following his namaz-e-janaza at Gendaria Dhupkhola playground in Old Dhaka at 4 pm after Asr prayers.

On February 6, 1972, City Group started its journey as a mustard oil producer. After the success of the first venture, City Group started investing in new areas. At this time, mainly investments are made in production, industry and trading. Now, City Group is one of the top ten industries of Bangladesh.

In the early ‘90s, City Group undertook more projects and initiatives. Currently, there are more than 40 companies in the industrial group where about 25,000 people are working.
