The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division did not respond to the application filed by Awami League candidate from Barishal-4 Shammi Ahmed for the third time to get back her candidacy.
Hearing in this regard will be held in the regular bench of the Appellate Division on January 2, said Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chamber court judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, on Tuesday (December 26).
Lawyers for Shammi Ahmed told the court that Australia on December 22 received the application that sought cancellation of their client’s citizenship.
Considering the matter, the lawyers requested the court to give Shammi Ahmed an opportunity to stay in the election field until January 2.
Earlier on December 19, Shammi Ahmed filed the application with the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division against the High Court order that upheld the Election Commission’s decision scrapping the nomination of Awami League candidate Shammi Ahmed due to their dual citizenship.
Later, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chamber court judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, upheld the High Court order.
