Army to be deployed from January 3

Members of armed forces will be deployed across the country from January 3 to assist the civil administration in a bid to hold the 12th parliamentary election in a free, fair and transparent manner.

According to a letter issued by the Armed Forces Division (AFD) on Tuesday, members of armed forces will be deployed on 3 January, instead of December 29. They will remain in the field until January 10.

Earlier on December 18, the EC informed the media that the armed forces would be deployed across the country for 13 days from December 29.

The AFD has approved the deployment of the armed forces at all 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country, a source at the EC said.

The approval has been given in response to the call of the Election Commission to hold the national election in a free, fair and credible manner.
