Incomes of middle-class people fall by 10 per cent

Incomes of the country’s middle-class have reduced by about 10 percent. Food consumption of the people has also reduced.
Although poverty in the city has decreased, financial vulnerability has increased.
21.11 per cent of the country's population, one in five, is suffering from food insecurity.
The trend of food insecurity is higher in rural areas from the urban areas.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) unveiled the information in its HIES 2022 report on Wednesday (December 27).
BRAC Chairman Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman was present as the special guest.
According to HIES 2022 data, approximately 21.11 per cent of the population has experienced moderate or severe food insecurity (as per the respondents' perception and judgement) nationally. At the same time, the rate was 22.36 per cent in rural areas and 18.37 per cent in urban areas in 2022.
On the other hand, 113 per cent of the population has experienced severe food insecurity in Bangladesh, which shows that the country is on track to achieving SDG Goal 2. ‘Zero Hunger by 2030’.
