Verdict in graft case against Mirza Abbas deferred

A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed January 24 to deliver judgment in a case filed against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas on charges of amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about it.
Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judges Court-6 fixed the new date as it was not ready for delivery.
Jahidul Islam, the court’s bench assistant confirmed the matter.
Earlier on November 22, the court fixed November 30 to deliver the verdict in the case after the hearing. Later, Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 deferred it to December 28.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for allegedly amassing wealth of Tk 7.54 crore illegally and concealing information about wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.
ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case filed a charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas of amassing wealth of Tk 4.23 crore illegally. The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
