Naogaon-2 polls suspended

The Election Commission (EC) has postponed the voting to Naogaon-2 constituency (Patnitala-Dhamoirhat) as an independent candidate has died.

The candidate Md Aminul Haque died at the age of 75.

Additional Secretary of Election Commission Secretariat Ashok Kumar Debnath said voting to Naogaon-2 has been postponed as per Section 17 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO).

The EC will reschedule the voting in this constituency. New candidates may join the existing candidates after the rescheduling, he further said.

Aminul Haque died of cardiac arrest at United Hospital in Dhaka early Friday.

Aminul was vying as an independent candidate after he failed to get the AL ticket. But the election committee cancelled his candidacy on various issues. He got his electoral symbol on Thursday after a High Court directive restored his candidacy.
