DMP issues traffic guidelines for 31st night

The Gulshan traffic division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police issued some temporary guidelines for traffic movement to avoid any untoward incident in the capital on 31st night.
DMP media and public relations division’s deputy police commissioner Md Faruk Hossain confirmed the matter on Saturday (December 30).
The instructions are:
1. Restriction on Gatherings in Public Spaces: In the interest of overall security and law and order, the DMP stresses that no gatherings or celebrations should be held at road intersections, flyovers, streets, or public places. This measure aims to prevent overcrowding in key areas of the capital.
2. Limitations on Cultural Events: The DMP strictly prohibits events, assemblies, dances, songs, or any cultural activities in open spaces during the New Year celebrations. This directive is intended to maintain a focus on safe and controlled celebrations.
3. Ban on Fireworks and Lanterns: To prevent potential hazards and disruptions, the buying and selling of fireworks, crackers, and lanterns are strictly prohibited throughout the city. This measure is crucial to ensure the safety of both individuals and the community.
4. Restricted Access to Dhaka University Area: After 6 pm, no outside persons or vehicles will be allowed to enter the Dhaka University area unless they possess Dhaka University stickers and can provide proper identification. This control is established to safeguard the university premises.
5. Time-bound Entry for Dhaka University Residents: Residents, including teachers, students, officers, and employees in the Dhaka University area, are required to return to their respective locations by 8 pm on December 31. Those entering after this time must display their identification to on-duty policemen.
6. Limited Entry to Specific Areas: Outsiders are restricted from entering Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara areas after 8 pm. However, citizens residing in these areas can enter through designated routes, subject to identification, after the specified time.
7. Discouragement of Visits to Restricted Areas: Non-residents are discouraged from visiting Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Dhaka University residential areas during the designated period, contributing to the overall security of these zones.
8. Control Measures in Hatirjheel Area: No assembly or function will be permitted in the Hatirjheel area after 6 pm, and strict regulations against stopping or parking vehicles are in place to maintain order.
9. Timely Return for Citizens in Restricted Areas: Residents of Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara are urged to return to their respective areas by 8 pm on December 31, ensuring a prompt and secure transition to the New Year.
10. Closure of Bars: All bars in Dhaka city are mandated to close by 6 pm on December 31, aligning with the DMP's commitment to a controlled and safe celebration environment.
11. Limited Events in Residential Hotels: While residential hotels are permitted to organize events, these must be managed within their own confines and on a limited scale, ensuring a balance between celebration and security.
12. Temporary Firearm Restrictions: To maintain a safe environment in various public spaces, licensed firearms are prohibited in residential hotels, restaurants, public gatherings, and festivals from 6 pm on December 31 to 5 am on January 1.
